The Tenth Muse

Keniselida, the muse of nothingness, stands apart from her sisters. They shun her. They try to pretend she doesn’t exist. After all, she works in opposition to them, prevents them from inspiring, from doing what they were made to do.

She is the muse of the blank page. She is writer’s block. She is an empty canvas sitting unloved. She is a rhyme, unfound. She is paint dried and wasted on the palette.

Keniselida does not grieve her fate, though. Her work is as important as any of her nine younger sisters. She is the one who touches your forehead at night as your thoughts whirl with half-formed ideas, and she clears your mind so you can rest. She gives you peace to scrub the floor, mind peacefully blank, as your thoughts pass unheeded. She gives you space.

Her sisters do not ask her to join their games, their frolics. They groan at her dark gown, so somber; they wear nothing but pastels, bright as sunlight. She is the eldest, the darkest, the responsible one. They call her names when they speak to her at all. “Hey, Death!” Calliope jeers. “Killed any rhyme schemes lately?”

But Keniselida knows her value. She knows the need for a blank slate. A clean floor. An empty room. Her sisters will come soon enough, bringing words and colors and rhymes. But the un-Muse comes first, as she must, and she clears a path for them.

So there’s a trend going round where you draw Miku inspired by your own culture and normally I just sit those out bc i’m from England but then the image of her covered in fake tan with the full chav makeup and sloppily bleached blue pigtails popped into my head and i almost threw up laughing. So here’s bri’ish Miku. She smells like impulse body spray and spent the last 30 minutes arguing with the teacher who told her to take her coat off. It’s chewsday innit
